Sin no More

So you are saved?

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
- Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV)

You are a new creature?

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
- 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

You have a new heart, and a new spirit?

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
- Ezekiel 36:26-27 (KJV)

You have the promise of everlasting life?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
- John 3:16 (KJV)

Awesome!!

So, now what?!?

Repentance

When Jesus began to preach, repentance played a key role in His teachings.

From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
- Matthew 4:17 (KJV)

Repent means something like "change one's mind", or more specifically, "turn away from sin".

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
- Romans 6:1-2 (KJV)

Repentance is not a one-off event. Repentance is for life. Every day.

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
- Luke 13:5 (KJV)

We ought to depart from iniquity.

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
- 2 Timothy 2:19 (KJV)

When it comes to repenting, the Ten Commandments are our bench mark.

If ye love me, keep my commandments.
- John 14:15 (KJV)

The Ten Commandments can be summarized by the two great commandments.

  • Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind
  • Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself

The Ten Commandments are a reflection of who God is.

Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, I know Him, and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him.
- 1 John 2:3-5 (KJV)

Jesus often said "Sin no more" after he had healed people.

So...

Sin No More!
