Jesus Died For Our Sins

God has some very straightforward rules that must be kept no matter what.

These rules are derived from the Ten Commandments.

  1. No other gods
  2. No idols
  3. No blasphemy
  4. Keep the Sabbath (Friday sunset to Saturday sunset)
  5. Honour your father and mother
  6. No murder
  7. No adultery
  8. No stealing
  9. No lying
  10. No coveting

The penalty for breaking God's Law (sin) is death.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- Romans 6:23 (KJV)

The life of the flesh is in the blood, which means that your blood is now required.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
- Leviticus 17:11 (KJV)

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission [of sin].
- Hebrews 9:22 (KJV)

Within God's Law there is provision for someone else to take your place, e.g. your sins are transferred to this person (who then pays the price). However, this person must be without spot (sin).

That rules out all of mankind.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
- Romans 3:23 (KJV)

So God Himself offered to do this.

But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
- 1 Peter 1:19 (KJV)

The idea here is that the blood of the Lamb will cover our sins.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
- John 1:29 (KJV)

God Himself took our place.

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
- 1 Peter 2:24 (KJV)

God became man. A servant even.

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
- Philippians 2:6-11 (KJV)

If Jesus would have sinned even once (or used His divine powers) then He would have been disqualified as our Saviour.

Satan tried real hard to make Jesus fail, but in the end, it was satan who failed.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
- Isaiah 53:7 (KJV)

Jesus never sinned.

And in this way, on the cross, Jesus qualified Himself as our High Priest (through suffering on the cross), and became our mediator, standing between God and us.

For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
- Hebrews 2:10 (KJV)

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
- 1 John 2:1-2 (KJV)

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
- 1 Timothy 2:5-6 (KJV)

Jesus was tempted in many different ways, and He knows what it's like to be human. He understands our pain, and our suffering.

For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
- Hebrews 4:15 (KJV)

Jesus died "once for all" which means that His sacrifice was sufficient to cover all the sins of mankind.

By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
- Hebrews 10:10 (KJV)

As our High Priest, Jesus is currently in The Most Holy Place judging the dead, and soon also the living. Eventually your case will come up.

What will you say then?!?

Remember that salvation is by grace through faith.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
- Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV)

This means that if you believe that Jesus died for your sins, you can be forgiven. But if you don't believe it the wrath of God remains on you.

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
- John 3:36 (KJV)

God is happy to forgive us. He really is.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- 1 John 1:9 (KJV)

We just need to come to some sort of understanding as to how serious sin is to God. It's a life or death situation.

God is looking for people that:

  1. Acknowledge that they are sinners
  2. Ask Jesus for forgiveness
  3. Turn away from sin

So my question to you is: do you believe that Jesus died for your sins?

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.
- Ephesians 1:7 (KJV)

Jesus is my Lord and Saviour.

Is He yours?!?
