Not Under the Law, but Under Grace?!?
A lot of people say that we no longer need to keep God's Law (the Ten Commandments), and use the verse below to support that idea.
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
- Romans 6:14 (KJV)
But the thing is that God's Law is always there. It is the dividing line between good and evil. It will never change.
To understand the verse above, it needs to be interpreted properly.
For sin shall not have dominion [death] over you: for ye are not under the [condemnation of the] law, but under grace.
- Romans 6:14 (KJV)
It is the law that condemns us as sinners, but we are saved from condemnation (death) because of grace.
That doesn't mean the law is obsolete by any means.
Paul said it best.
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
- Romans 6:1-2 (KJV)
As Christians we ought to stop sinning, and obey God's Law (the Ten Commandments).
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
- John 14:15 (KJV)
So yes, we're under grace, but that doesn't mean we should continue to sin.
In fact, why continue to do the thing that hurts God the most?
