Forced Worship (Sunday Laws?)
We know from the Three Angels' Messages that the final warning message is about who you worship.
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.
- Revelation 14:6-13 (KJV)
You either worship God or satan basically.
Worship has everything to do with keeping the commandments of God.
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
- John 14:15 (KJV)
The only worship commandment in God's Law, the Ten Commandments, is the Sabbath commandment.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
- Exodus 20:8-11 (KJV)
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
- Isaiah 66:23 (KJV)
Satan has counterfeited the Sabbath, and "changed" it to Sunday (in AD 321).
Of course the Catholic Church claims that the change [from Sabbath to Sunday] was her act. And the act is the mark of her ecclesiastical power and authority in religious matters.
- Faith of Our Fathers, p. 14 C.F. Thomas, Chancellor of Cardinal Gibbons
So now the worship day has been changed from the seventh day (God's Law) to the first day (satan's rebellion).
Sunday-keeping will ultimately be enforced by what is called a Sunday law.
Sooner or later Sunday laws will be passed.
- Ellen White, The Review and Herald, February 16, 1905
But is this Biblical? Will it really come to that?!?
The answer lies in the verse below:
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.
- Revelation 13:15 (KJV)
To understand this verse we first need to understand what it means to "speak" and to "cause".
To speak = legislate
Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, saying, This is the law of the sin offering: In the place where the burnt offering is killed shall the sin offering be killed before the LORD: it is most holy.
- Leviticus 6:25 (KJV)
To cause = enforce
And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.
- Jeremiah 15:4 (KJV)
So, putting it all together:
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak [legislate], and cause [enforce] that as many as would not worship the image of the beast [on Sunday] should be killed.
- Revelation 13:15 (KJV)
So yeah, the idea of a mandatory worship day (Sunday) to be enforced either by "buy or sell" or (ultimately) death is entirely Biblical. It's just hard to imagine, that's all.
Sunday laws were tried out in 1911, but they were never used.
Here's an excerpt from it:
Every man and woman shall repair in the morning to the divine service and sermons preached upon the Sabbath day, and in the afternoon to divine service, and catechising, upon pain for the first fault to lose their provision and the allowance for the whole week following; for the second, to lose the said allowance and also be whipt ; and for the third to suffer death.
- American State Papers
Keep in mind that God will never force you to worship. Only satan does that.
