About God

I will never finish this article, but here are some things I have noticed about God.

God is Love

God does not just love, He is Love.

He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
- 1 John 4:8 (KJV)

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
- 1 John 1:5 (KJV)

The Universe

God is a Spirit.

God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
- John 4:24 (KJV)

So where then is the Universe?

I believe that the Universe is in God's mind.

That explains why He is able to do miracles, and look ahead of time.

Vast

Just to give you some idea of the number of moving particles God has to keep track of.

  • The Universe has 100 billion galaxies
  • Each galaxy has 100 billion stars
  • Earth has 7.5 billion people
  • Each person consists of 37.2 trillion cells
  • Each cell has between 500 million and 2 trillion molecules
  • Molecules have atoms which in turn have quarks
  • Slow motion cameras can capture 10 trillion frames per second
  • God can look ahead at least 7,000 years

And this isn't even the only world God has.

This world is but a little atom in the vast domain over which God presides.
- Ellen White, Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, p. 324

We are so small, and yet, God is mindful of us.

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
- Psalms 8:4 (KJV)

God is Eternal

Eternal = without beginning or end; lasting forever; always existing (opposed to temporal)

The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.
- Deuteronomy 33:27 (KJV)

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
- Isaiah 40:28 (KJV)

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
- Psalms 90:2 (KJV)

The idea that God has no beginning or end is mind boggling. I don't claim to understand it, but I guess it's a bit like a circle. They have no beginning or end either. It's just a fact of life.

Philosophers sometimes talk about caused and uncaused things. For example, I might ask "Where does the letter C come from?". And you might say "From the letter B". So then I ask "Where does the letter B come from?". And you say "From the letter A". And finally I say "Where does the letter A come from?". Clearly this can't go on forever, so you say "The letter A has no beginning, it was simply always there. It is uncaused. And that is what God is. He is eternal, uncaused, and has no beginning or end. It's the mystery of life.

The name of God

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
- Exodus 3:14 (KJV)

God has many names, but unfortunately we are no longer able to pronounce YHWH.

Although this video here claims to know how.

God does not change

For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
- Malachi 3:6 (KJV)

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
- Hebrews 13:8 (KJV)

Conclusion

There is so much more to God than we can possibly imagine. I don't even know where to start really.

God is simply superior to us in every way possible, and He has already achieved "perfection".

Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
- Matthew 5:48 (KJV)
